[... okay, now Yusuke looks taken aback - still annoyed, of course, but surprised and confused, too. What is Touya talking about? The Dark Tournament was over ages ago--
Oh.
Oh.
Pardon Yusuke while he sits here and grapples with the sudden, strong urge to start beating his head against the nearest wall. Dammit, of course Touya's from the past. Of course. It's not like Johto can make things easy for him, after all. This also explains why Touya seems to be so ticked off at him, though to be honest, it hadn't occurred to him that the guy had taken the loss so hard (not that he even comprehends the extent to which being defeated by his team has impacted Touya in the first place - yeah, he knows about "the light" and all of that, but given that he'd been pretty wrapped up in his own team's reasons for wanting to win the tournament, he hadn't exactly given a lot of thought to what the losers might've been feeling in the wake of their loss. Priorities, you know?). At any rate, that expression of mixed surprise and irritation Yusuke was wearing has since faded into a bit of a grimace, and after a moment of rather profound silence, he finally responds, saying:]
Yeah, uh. About that...
[HERE IT COMES... Yusuke's not very happy about having to have this conversation, but the way he sees it, it's better just to drive right in and get it over with rather than let this, uh, awkward stretch of miscommunication they'd been having go on any longer. He doubts it'll clear up any animosity that Touya has toward him, but if nothing else, it'll provide context for why they haven't really been on the same page. Yusuke goes on, a bit reluctantly.]
The Dark Tournament's over. For me, that is. This place takes people from different times and places, so even though it hasn't been that long since our teams fought for you, it's been something like a couple months for me. That's counting the time I've been stranded out here.
